The Nottingham Youth String Orchestra was formed in March 2000 and consists of

20 - 30 members between the ages of 14 and 21. They give an average of four concerts per season and go on a residential rehearsal weekend in September of each year. Every other year they go away on a May weekend concert tour.

Rehearsals:

Rehearsals are held every three weeks during term time on a Sunday afternoon between 2.30pm and 5.30pm (sometimes there is an extra rehearsal on the evening before a concert
day - usually a Friday evening). They take place at St John¹s College, Bramcote.

Joining -
Who should join?

The sort of players we are looking for:

have a minimum standard of Associated Board Grade 5 or its

equivalent

will be able to attend regularly and will be available to play in all or very nearly all of our concerts (approximately four a year)

have some sight-reading ability

are interested in performing a wide-ranging repertoire

get on well with other people

Email us to arrange an audition. At audition players are asked to:

perform a piece of their own choice (an accompanist will be provided should they be unable to provide one themselves)

play three short extracts which will be sent to them in advance of the audition
