| The
Nottingham Choral Trust is now in its 25th season. The
founding aim in 1983 was to promote weekend choral courses
and concerts for singers from all walks of life in the
Nottingham area. Committed from the beginning to an
imaginative and adventurous approach to choral music,
the work of the Trust has developed rapidly since then.
Today NCT Music has eleven performing groups, both adult
and youth, choral and instrumental, involving over one
thousand participants. We also present a varied programme
of twelve high quality concerts per season.
NCT
Music is a registered charity no. 517018 and is a members
of Making Music (the National Federation of
Music Societies), Young Choirs.net (British
Federation of Young Choirs) and the National Association
of Youth Orchestras.

NCT
Symphony Chorus
Our Symphony Chorus (250 singers) offers a number of
workshops and high-quality performance opportunities
each season and provides a rewarding experience for
singers of all abilities. There are no auditions and
the time commitment is minimal: some preparation in
your own time at home, guided by a rehearsal CD, then
one or two intensive and highly enjoyable day or weekend
rehearsal culminating in an exciting concert. The Chorus
includes people from Nottingham and much further field,
keen members of choral societies and also people who
cannot attend a weekly choir and find the NCT Symphony
Chorus is the perfect way to keep in touch with singing.

Mission
Statement
- The Nottingham Choral Trust provides opportunities
for singers and instrumentalists of all ages and abilities
to take part in educational music weekends and high
quality public performances in Nottingham and further
afield
- The repertoire ranges widely, balancing classics
with less familiar works, including contemporary music
commissions and researched programmes.
- The Trust maintains an orchestral group to accompany
all the choirs and to contribute orchestral items
to choral concert programmes.
- The Trust is strongly committed to developing participation
in music by young people. It provides a programme
of courses and concerts for its four open access youth
choirs and runs regular youth string and youth windband
projects and a boys' choir. It supports
two auditioned chamber groups: a four part choir and
a string orchestra.
Brief
History
The NCT was formed in 1983 by Angela Kay, its
Artistic Director. The first choral weekend for adults
was devoted to the Verdi Requiem, with a choir of two
hundred and a performance in Nottingham¹s Royal
Concert Hall. As membership and interest grew, the chamber
choir (The East of England Singers) was formed in 1985,
the Nottingham Choral Trust Youth Choir in 1989, the
orchestra in 1990, Stringwise in 1993, Bandwise and
the Youth Chamber Choir in 1999, 'Blow the Dust off
your Instrument' and the Youth
String Orchestra in 2000. The year 2001 saw the launch
of the Boys' Singing Challenge, a project funded by
the National Foundation for Youth Music to support a
regular boys ' choir and an associated outreach initiative
in city schools.
